Fixing up cracks in the terrain.

Since the terrain is made up of varying level of detail chunks, when two chunks of different detail levels meet, their edges do not match up perfectly.

This results in gaps/cracks in the terrain.

Notice the cracks that allow us to see the blue sky color through the terrain where chunks meet.

To fix this, I’ve created a “skirt” for each terrain chunk. Technically the edges will still not meet perfectly, but it’s hard to notice because the vertical skirts at the edges of the chunk hide the gaps.

A view of the terrain from the bottom, showing that chunks now have vertical skirts at the edges, which hide cracks when the terrain is viewed from above.
